Determination of the drilling fluid density
Drilling fluid density refers to the quality of drilling fluid per unit volume. In units of g/cm3 or kg/m3.
Determine the density of the drilling fluid by using a drilling fluid densitometer. Drilling fluid density meter is usually designed to balance a drilling fluid cup at one end with a fixed balance hammer at the other end and a swimming code that can move freely along the scale arm beam. For accurate balancing, the arm is equipped with leveling bubbles (extended range accessories can be used when required).
1. Correction of the instrument
1.1 Correction of the point of quantity
Fresh water is often used to correct the instrument. At 21℃, the density value of fresh water should be 1.00 g/cm3. With clean fresh water filled with drilling fluid cup, and then cover the lid, make the excess water from the center of the lid, wipe the outside the water, the densitometer blade on the bracket, yards line (usually on the left) at the scale 1.00, observe whether the densitometer balance (blisters in the central), if not adjust the balance in the column of the lead balance, namely the bubble is located in the central. It is required to be corrected before testing, and the error of the densitometer is not greater than 0.01.
1.2 Correction for aggravation (weight loss).
Sometimes when using overweight or foam drilling fluid drilling, the density is beyond the measured range, need to increase or reduce the densitometer correction, the method is to use the dense fluid or drilling fluid, first in the standard densitometer, and then according to the need to the left or right 0.3~0.4, readjust the lead bullet in the cylinder, to make its rebalance, then the measured liquid density is equal to the density of the reading plus or minus the correction shift (the left is added, the right is minus). When there is no weight increase or weight loss, the densitometer needs to correct the reduction.
2. Determination of the drilling fluid density
1 Place the instrument base on a horizontal plane.
2 Measure the temperature of the drilling fluid and record it on the drilling fluid report.
3 Inject the drilling fluid to be tested into a clean drilling fluid cup, pour it out, and then inject the new drilling fluid to be tested. Place the lid on the cup filled with the drilling fluid, and rotate the lid until the cover is tight. Ensure that some drilling fluid overflows from the holes in the lid to drain air or gas from the drilling fluid.
4 Press the lid onto the drilling fluid cup (block the hole), rinse and wipe the outside of the cup and lid.
5 Place the arm on the base and move the code along the scale to balance it. Balance is reached when the leveling bubble is located below the centerline.
6 Read the drilling fluid density values at the swim edge near the side of the drilling fluid cup. Appropriate corrections should be done when using extended range attachments.
7 Record the drilling fluid density value, accurate to 0.01 g/cm3.
3. Precautions for operation
1 The drilling fluid density is related to its temperature, and the sample temperature shall be recorded during the measurement.
2 The bubbles will distort the measurement results. Before the determination, carefully flate the sample to make the bubbles released. When injected into the cup, also be careful not to stir up the bubbles, and the defoaming agent can be added if necessary.
3 When putting the cup lid, keep the drilling fluid cup horizontal and push the cup lid smoothly along the mouth of the cup to squeeze out all the air.
